Fort Dauphin or Taolagnaro is a wonderful port town in the south of Madagascar. It is an exciting tourist destination and an attractive place for vacation.

The town is bounded on the north, east, and south by the Indian Ocean. Mountains and hills take up the western part.

For your vacation, if you like beaches, try Libanona beach--one of the greatest in Madagascar. Otherwise, if you prefer mountains, I suggest you to climb the Peak St. Louis. You can have a picnic up there and enjoy the spectacular view of Fort Dauphin.

There are two means of reaching Fort Dauphin. You can go there directly by plane, or by taking the national route 13 from Ihosy. This road, which traverse all the desert, is not up to scratch and you need a pickup truck for your trip. Nevertheless, it is worth taking because by following it you will see and enjoy the magnificient desert.
